I bought a factory refurbished model. No sign of use, just a sticker on the box and a six month rather than one year warranty.
Very compact. That is the trade off; the screen is smaller than it's higher priced siblings.
The unit boots quickly and usually aquires a strong signal within thirty seconds or so.
The software is intuitive, the nesting is clear and a back button is always available.
The display itself is clear and easily readable in sunlight.
It sports a 2D or 3D view.
The Point of Interest Database is full of the usual suspects; gas, food, lodging, & emergency services.
The take-aways I found are the maps are from 2008 and the update of Q2 2009 is $80. More than I paid for the unit itself.
There is no manual to speak of. You must find it on-line - a pdf file. Straight forward, but laid out in a strange manner - for instance there is no page listing all the icons...you sift through the entire 126 pages until you find what you are looking for.
Overall, a very good value priced unit. |

After doing some research on the GPS system, I finally decided to purchase Navigon 2000S. However, I am disappointed with the product. It is almost impossible to acquire GPS signal. I left it under the clear sky for over 1hr & got no signal. Then I tried it again the following day. It managed to acquire the signal and worked for my journey from office to home. The navigaton worked perfectly. However, after turning it off and on again, I could not get it working again. It had the same problem - cannot acquire the GPS signal again. I simply cannot afford to have a device that work only 10% of the time. I believe it is a hardware problem. Somehow, the GPS chip does not work properly.
Based on my limited experience with this device. Here is what I can say:
Pros (when it works): small, nice design, great 3-D, great Reality View, great lane assist. A device with pro-level features at entry-level price.
Cons : It simply does not acquire the GPS signal. Works only 10% of the time. It is just an expensive door-stop.
I am returning it to Amazon & requesting for a replacement. (giving Navigon another chance). Will update when I get the replacement unit.
Afternote: Just got a replacement from Amazon. The unit works great. I can't be happier. The feature is simply unbeatable. Again, it has pro-level features at entry-level price. The GPS signal problem is gone with this new unit. It acquires signal within 2 minutes when I first turn it on & within 1 min when it wakes up from "standby" mode. Very acceptable response time. I will upgrade my rating to a 5-star (not sure how to do that at Amazon!!). |
It broke!

| I loved using the GPS, except for the fact that I had it exactly 1 day less than a month before it broke. One of the teeth in the charging port broke off, therefore not allowing it to charge. Not a good thing to happen while on a road trip and not knowing where the next turn should be! |
